Gout Attack, 3 a.m. Eternal!
The time is 3 a.m., that’s when I awoke this morning due to a throbbing gouty toe! The Gout has reared its ugly head and attacked me in the middle of the night. To be honest, I’ve been asking for it. Not watching my diet and not drinking enough water to flush everything out. Damn those Reese’s peanut butter cups (high fructose corn syrup) and a trip too many to McDonald’s across the street. I know, I know, shame on me! Well ya know, things have been going so good as far as my gout not acting up and all I became careless. You can NOT become careless or gout will bite you on your ghoulie!
Scientists Out A Gene For Gout!
Johns Hopkins scientists now have shown that the malfunctioning gene they helped uncover can lead to high concentrations of blood urate that forms crystals in joint tissue, causing inflammation and pain the hallmark of this disease, Gout.
Overeating and Gout!
Geez, can’t even enjoy an “all you can eat” buffet with out triggering a nasty episode of our friend, Mr. gout! Yes its true folks, overeating can trigger a gout attack, why? Well because uric acid spikes when you have a full gut and as your kidneys try to keep up, they can’t, so thus comes the “needle like crystals” that get logged in your big toe joint and other surrounding areas. Besides these buffet’s are riddled with gout no no’s like shellfish, red meat, and sugary desserts (its the high fructose corn syrup that is bad). So really all that’s left is salad, and what fun is that?!
So this means no more “all you can eat” Chinese Super Buffet for me…
Gout: Dual Energy Computed Tomography Helps Spot Gout!
NEW! Now it can be done where you can “see” where your gout pain is coming from! This can be scary!!
Below is an excerpt from medgadget.com
“CT scanners have long been considered potentially useful as a non-invasive diagnostic modality, but their ability to help identify uric acid deposits has been limited. To overcome this, Canadian researchers decided to try using a new algorithm on the SOMATOM Definition dual energy CT (DECT) scanner from Siemens. Initial findings from the researchers show that the novel technique can provide radiologists with significant help in diagnosing gout.”
Of course us sufferes know when we are having a gout attack, but now its possible to see where all the pain is coming from! Obviously not just the big toe but all over the surrounding joints! Ouch!!
