On this Memorial Day Holiday please be careful my fellow Gout friends! Lots of tempting BBQ steak, hamburgers, hot dogs, and “no no” gout foods out there! We must indulge though… Just be sure to use common gout sense. Try not pig out on 4 cheeseburgers and “Oh, I lost count how many” hot dogs. Don’t get me wrong, I’m gonna enjoy a hamburger today, just not 3 of them like I want, hehe. And maybe a hot dog, but will try and stick to the grilled veggies (avoid asparagus!!! ) and natural fruit juice (high fructose corn syrup… bad). Yeah, I know… beer is out, wine is out, and so are sugary sodas! But enjoy a hamburger damnit!
I have read several articles saying that Vitamin C is good at keeping Gout at bay. It says it keeps your uric acid low and blah, blah, blah. I’m here to tell you that I ain’t buying it. After my Gout incident with Niacin, I ward off any vitamins now! You can get all the vitamins you need in a well balanced (gout friendly) diet. Besides, its also said that Vitamin C can keep your cold at bay, and that does not work either! So don’t believe it. If you take Vitamin C and can vouch for it, please comment here. I just don’t think its viable at all.
Thanks to pjd3 for reminding me. Niacin, which is vitamin B3 is a Gout causer! Beware of this out there and read your labels. Niacin (vitamin B3) IS in everything, so please read your labels folks! The highest doses can be found in multivitamins (this very thing gave me gout) and breads & cereals (mostly processed) and can raise your uric acid thereby giving you Gout.
Foods Highest in Niacin (vitamin b3)
* Multivitamins (not always healthy, eh?)
* Breads and Cereals (processed mostly)
* Soy products (yup)
The list goes on, but those are the top 3 with the highest levels of niacin which can cause gout via raising your uric acid level and administering those God awful needle like crystals in your joints!
PLEASE, READ YOUR LABELS! Click Here!
Came across a few articles this morning, all mentioning US Lawmakers and their individual ailments including Gout…
So it seems some members of Congress have Gout, that would be Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.), who has it in his feet, and Del. Eni Faleomavaega (D-American Samoa). Its been noted before that Pacific Islanders suffer from Gout more so than any other ethnic group. My friend Richard in Hawaii has been in the hospital for weeks at a time because of Gout parking in many joints in his body at once. Ouch!
Rumor around Capitol Hill is that Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) has Gout. But neither he nor his staff will admit to it. C’mon Mike, come out of the “Gout closet” and support us “Goutaholics”!

We all know potassium is a good for Gout, so eat them bananas! I try to eat at least 3 a day, not only are they my favorite fruit but they have the gout fighting benefits as well. Hey, every little thing helps and the babes like em.
